Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Exam Objectives
AZ-900
The Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900 exam is organized around three major domains that test your understanding of cloud computing and the Azure platform at a foundational level.
Describe Cloud Concepts (25%) covers the basics of cloud computing. This includes cloud service models such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, along with deployment models like public, private, and hybrid cloud. You should also understand the main benefits of cloud services, including scalability, elasticity, high availability, fault tolerance, and consumption-based pricing.
Describe Azure Architecture and Services (35%) is the largest section of the exam and focuses on core Azure building blocks. Expect questions on regions, region pairs, availability zones, and resource groups, as well as major service categories such as compute, networking, and storage. You should recognize the purpose of Azure Virtual Machines, App Services, containers, virtual networks, load balancing options, and storage offerings like Blob Storage and Azure Files.
Describe Azure Management and Governance (30%) evaluates how Azure environments are administered, secured, monitored, and controlled. Topics include Microsoft Entra ID, role-based access control, Azure Policy, resource locks, and management groups. You should also know Azure Cost Management, the Pricing Calculator, SLAs, and monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor. Together, these domains ensure candidates understand not just what Azure offers, but how organizations manage it responsibly.
